Two Too Large Tables
Allan Wexler-Ellen Wexler
This artwork consists of two elements. The first has thirteen chairs, which are extended to become columns that support a horizontal plane seven feet from the ground. In the other, identically placed chairs support the plane 30 inches from the ground. One functions as a shade pavilion; the other as a community table. The seemingly random placement of chairs directs and focuses views of the river, walkways and landscape. Pathways cut into the tabletop lead to clusters of chairs. Their unconventional placement brings people together in unexpected groupings.
