This Service Cross of the German Eagle pin was given to Charles Lindbergh on behalf of Adolf Hitler for his contributions to world aviation. Lindbergh was surprised to receive it during his October 1938 visit to Germany to assess its air power. He refused to return the pin after Kristallnacht, just one month later, reinforcing suspicions that he was a Nazi sympathizer.
