From Paper to Wood -- and Gone
A colorful image is the final product of the woodblock printing process. The preparatory drawing for this particular print was attached to the wood and then destroyed in cutting the block, a common sacrifice in producing woodblock prints. The Freer Gallery of Art acquired two such prints in 2012, illustrating the museum's continuing commitment to building our Hokusai collection. |
