When this 1934 ad ran in the Washington Post, Luxmanor offered "subsistence homesteads" on affordable one-half acre lots. Over 14,000 square feet of ground was allocated for a vegetable garden and a chicken house -- both resulting in necessities that could be used in the modern "electric health kitchen" and preserved in the vegetable storage room found in the basement.
