Commodore Decatur was awarded a goal medal by the U.S. Congress for the U.S. frigate United States victory over British frigate Macedeonian, on October 25, 1812. This object is of paramount importance in the history of the U.S. Navy. The obverse shows a profile of Stephen Decatur and the reverse a depiction of the naval battle. |
