Grooved Runway:
This runway section was part of a NASA Wallops Island aeronautics study conducted in the 1960s. The study showed that grooved concrete surfaces deter aircraft tire hydroplaning. Now, many state highway departments use similar pavement to reduce car skidding on wet roads. |
