Camels:
These tri-color glazed pottery camels once belonged to Cornelia and Gifford Pinchot and are on loan from the Pinchot family. They date to the late 7-8th century (618-907 AD) from the T'ang Dynasty. This Chinese period is marked by wide contact with other cultures and by the development of printing and the flourishing of poetry, art and Buddhism. Ceramic and porcelain wares were often used as tomb figures. Common to include in the tombs were horses for the late owner to ride, and camels to carry his goods.
