16th century oil on wood panel painting, possibly German or Italian. It depicts the religious scene from the gospel passage of Luke 7. The story is the rising by Christ of the deceased only son of a Widowed mother of Nain.
James and Mary Pinchot displayed this painting above the Sitting Room fire place at one time. The Forest Service had the painting cleaned and conserved to include adding stabilizing material to the frame to allow for the expansion and contraction of the wood panels that is common with changing temperatures and humidity. |
