In 1885, Grant's sixty-third birthday was celebrated by a group of former Union and Confederate officers in Louisville. This book contains the speeches made in honor of Grant by those attending.

A first edition copy of Grant's memoirs. This work brought financial security to the Grant family, and the drive to finish them is thought to have sustained Grant during his illness. The ivory stylus is thought to have been used by Grant in preparing his memoirs.
