Construction and Materials:
The flag is constructed of a loosely woven wool bunting. The stars are made of a finer linen fabric. Each stripe originally measured about 19 inches in width, making the flag just under 24 feet on the hoist. While the original length is unknown, it is possible that it may have measured thirty feet or more. Like a number of handmade flags of its vintage, the stars of the Fort Niagara garrison flag are sewn onto one side only. Star-shaped holes in the blue field allow the stars to show through to the other side.
