The Covered Way:
An earthen-walled passageway called a covered way connected the magazine with the gun emplacements. This permitted garrison troops to move ammunition safely to the guns without being seen or subjected to enemy fire. Ft. Defiance's covered way was completed, the "cover" has long since been destroyed. |
