a failed attack on Dover. In September, Colonel William Lowe's 5th Iowa Cavalry marched on Clarksville with the remains of the 71st Ohio, the 11th Illinois and 13th Wisconsin Infantry and four pieces of Illinois artillery. At Riggins Hill in Woodlawn, reinforced by armed townspeople, Woodward made his stand. His line was shelled until his troops broke and ran towards town. Lowe pursued and forces Clarksville's surrender. Woodward surrendered. After robbing the town and taking supplies, Lowe's men returned to Dover.
