USS Cairo
The USS Cairo was one of seven ironclad gunboats by the Union to control the rivers. She was 52 feet wide and 175 feet long and carried 13 heavy guns. The Cairo helped capture Clarksville, Nashville and Memphis. She hit a mine and sank in December 1862. |
