Clarksville's River Connection:
Clarksville's location on the Cumberland River was ideal. The river's connections to both the Tennessee and Ohio River and ultimately to the Mississippi meant crucial products including coal from Pittsburgh, PA and textiles from the northeast were delivered to the city via the Ohio and Cumberland Rivers. Clarksville tobacco and flour were shipped to New Orleans and the world.
