Back in the days of old when elections in the south were rigged by laws designed to disenfranchise minority voters -- something that no one would be outwardly racist enough to promote these days! -- Bob Moses, who passed on July 25, 2021, became field secretary for the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC), working under threats of violence in SNCC's Mississippi Project to register black voters. The murders of James Chaney, Andrew Goodman and Michael Schwerner happened during this campaign. Later, Moses helped organize the Mississippi Freedom Democratic Party which challenged the all-white Democratic Party delegates at the 1964 Democratic convention. Moses is shown here at an event at the Newseum back in 2014.
