John Thomas Schley (1712-1790) came to Frederick town in 1745 from the Rhineland area of Germany. Schley, credited with building the first house in the new town, was the schoolmaster and choir master for the German Reformed Church. Schley made a place for the liberal arts in the newly founded city. |
