Ivory Head of Woman from Nimrud (720 BC)
This ivory plaque, also known as the "Mona Lisa of Nimrud," depicts a royal woman with her crown in inlaid jewels. The piece is Neo-Assyrian and made of ivory, a popular medium for that era. It was discovered in the early 20th century by British archeologist Max Mallowan in Nimrud and was originally part of a wooden piece of furniture.
