New Deal Murals
Landscape of Ellicott City

In 1937, the United States Treasury Department's Section of Fine Arts and Sculpture commissioned Peter DeAnna to paint oil on canvas murals, Landscape of Ellicott City (above) and Building of Ellicott Mills, on the east wall, for Ellicott City's Main Post office.
The murals are part of Franklin D. Roosevelt's New Deal and were intended to boost the morale of people suffering the effects of the Great Depression with art.
These murals are part of the Postal Fine Arts Collection owned by the United States Postal Service on loan to Howard County, Maryland.
