Diary:
In front of the elevator bank is a beautiful mural entitled Diary. Painted for the Embassy in 1988 by Canadian artist Gathie Falk (b. 1928) the painting is a depiction of the bloom-cycle of a tulip. Looking at the panels from left to right, one can follow any of the tulips from bud to final bloom. This painting is reminiscent of Ottawa's Tulip Festival, which has been help every year in May since 1953 in commemoration of Canada's role in liberating the Netherlands during the Second World War. |
