I was driving along the main drag to reach Scotty's Castle when I passed a coyote standing by the side of the road. I pulled over and stopped. While considering if I should turn around or just back up to get a closer look at it, I looked up in my rear-view mirror and found him trotting down the road to reach me.

He walked up to the sand bank next to where I was parked and just sat there. Apparently, tourists had fed him (don't do that! It's illegal and it's ultimately bad for the animals!) and he had decided that this was an easy way to get a meal. (The ranger said their normal diet consists of rabbits and roadkill. He's a scrawny fellow but the ranger said this was all muscle and allowed him to catch him prey.) I took pictures through my car window for awhile and then decided to roll down the window on his side to get better ones. Keep in mind I'm on the driver's side and he's on the passenger side. I had a trace of worry that he would jump in the open window but the need for the photos won out. I took a roll of film of him before moving on. It was very cool!
