This is a pivotal strip in many ways, in addition to being the first kernel of the infamous Happy Dance. Here you can see Schroeder playing a Russian folk ballad, with the Peanuts Gang clapping in the rhythm of the music, while Snoopy dances with great joy. Sparky's love of classical music began when he worked at Art Instruction School with colleagues who had all gone to college, and had been exposed to a level of culture unknown to Sparky for the most part. It was during that time that he switched his taste from country and western to classical music. In his first two years back in civilian life, he bought more than fifty record albums from Brahms to Beethoven, and his passion for classical music followed him for the next fifty years. |
