The artist Christo (Javacheff) died on May 31. He and his wife Jeanne-Claude (who died in 2009) had established themselves as world famous drapists. They were probably best known here in the States for the Running Fence installation in California (24 miles of hanging white nylon which took four years of preparation and was up for two weeks in 1976) as well as The Gates which were installed briefly in New York's Central Park back in 2005. They also covered the Reichstag and did curtains around some islands... They were rather unique. |
