Hitomi Hosono cites nature as her primary point of inspiration and meticulously studies botanical forms to create pots that are covered in leaves, buds, and flower sprigs. Stylistically, this piece represents the rebirth of the ancient technique of sprig-making also used by Wedgwood, while also looking to the future of English and Japanese ceramics. This cross-cultural dialogue relates to themes in the current exhibition Passion for the Exotic: Japonism, on view in the Teak Room nearby. |
