Goya's Third of May 1808 is one of the most acclaimed paintings ever created. It has influenced our perceptions of war for more than 200 years, yet the words describing the carnage it depicts, and the incident itself, and all but forgotten. Because it's a fact that we remember what we see long after the words we read or hear.
