South Ramp.
As Monks Mound was enlarged several times by the Mississippians, so was its south ramp. Archeological evidence indicates the Indians set prepared log steps into the ramp, held with pegs, with a gate and fence at the top.
Our steps allow you to ascend Monks Mound in the same place as the Indians, but are not intended to look like theirs. |
