A moving van parked at the Renwick Gallery, awaiting the wonderful No Spectators: The Art of Burning Man. The exhibit was scheduled to close on January 21, 2019. Of course, with the Trump shutdown, all Smithsonian museums closed after January 1 so no one could see this exhibit (or any others) for its last three weeks. Since there were contractual obligations to send the exhibit traveling to other museums (first stop -- the Cincinnati Art Museum), unpaid Smithsonian staff had to come in and close out the exhibit, pack it up, and send it on its way. What a sad ending to a glorious exhibit! |
