Facets of Hope:
A temporary art installation remembering those lost to COVID-19 in Montgomery County
March-September 2021

Life is fragile. But our connections to people are strong, even when COVID-19 limits our ability to be together in person.
Since March 6, 2020, when COVID-19 was first reported in Montgomery County, we have lost more than 1,350 of our parents, children, siblings, partners, friends, neighbors and co-workers to the virus. Each loss causes pain and grief. And as we turn to each other for comfort, many of us have also found solace in green spaces like Brookside Gardens. The predictable rhythm of the seasons brings reassurance; the green growth of plants inspires hope; and the beauty of the landscape evokes joy.
This temporary art installation is meant to be a place for memories, reflection and healing. One strand of crystals is suspended in memory of each life lost to COVID-19 in Montgomery County. New strands will be added through the duration of the exhibit. At the conclusion of the exhibit, the crystals will be removed and repurposed elsewhere.
May this place of quiet beauty bring peace.
