1743: Nanticoke -- Scattered and Displaced

By 1743, the Nanticoke and Choptank Indians in Maryland had been severely displaced by expanding colonial settlements and moved onto reserved lands that had few resources. Some left to join related tribes in the north and west. Many moved further up the Nanticoke River, joining with other Nanticoke communities on their lands in Delaware.
