Used by Capt. Orange Sackett, Jr., quartermaster for the 136th NY State Volunteers, 20th Army Corps, part of the Union forces encamped in Raleigh during the surrender negotiations at Bennett Place. Portable desks were used by both Union and Confederate officers and clerks. The paperwork and contents are original. |
