The church across the street (on the right) is the one bombed on September 15, 1963. After the tragedy, the congregation received $300,000 in donations for repairs, allowing the church to reopen on July 7, 1964. It still holds services every Sunday. The United States Department of the Interior designated the Sixteenth Street Baptist Church a National Historic Landmark in 2006.
