When the veranda was enlarged in 1878 the cast iron balcony was moved west to the next south facing wall. In 2004 the balcony was removed, its broken pieces reproduced and one year later returned to its original location. The cast iron staircase was also removed when the veranda was enlarged. Following completion of the reconstructed veranda, work began on installation of a new cast iron staircase. Risers were reproduced based on the historic photographs. The railing was cast based on the pattern seen on the balcony railing. |
