"The Spire" Sculpture
N. Bentz St. and Carroll Parkway
Frederick, MD 21701

Scott Cawood's 2004 metal sculpture, created to celebrate the 75th anniversary of Baker Park, was constructed of recycled machinery and other materials that reflect aspects of Frederick County: agricultural machine parts, pieces of The Delaplaine Arts Center building when it was a mill, and automobile parts. It commemorates Frederick's famous "clustered spires," the skyline made famous by John Greenleaf Whittier's poem titled "Barbara Fritchie."
