Images of The Tower

Ted Geisel purchased this observatory tower, located atop a lone hill in California, in the late 1940s. He built a home around it. The family room was located directly inside the tower's door, spilling into Ted's studio where he wrote and illustrated his books. Ted's stepdaughter, Leagrey Dimond, who donated the treasures that you see in this space, made her bedroom at the top of the tower. "The tower," says Dimond, "was the center of family life." The home was small, just two bedrooms, with a walled garden built around it. To this day, it is the family home.
