Sculptor Mark di Suvero made this drawing in Europe, during his self-imposed exile protesting the U.S. war in Vietnam. For Peace revisits the last major work di Suvero completed before departing the United States: a forty-one-foot high, bright red structure once titled For Peace (now known as Mother Peace, 1969–70). The sculpture is a rare work in which di Suvero made explicit reference to peace, both in its title and the symbol cut into one of its beams.
