FDR Memorial; Original One

Here is a shot of the memorial FDR specified that he wanted. It's located outside the National Archives (shown in the background) and consists of a large block of white marble.

Before he died, FDR asked that no memorial be erected to his memory. If people insisted on something, he requested that it be as plain as possible and no larger than the size of his desk. According to his wishes, the memorial ("In memory of Franklin Delano Roosevelt") was dedicated in 1965. I have no idea if it will be removed given the large new memorial or not.
