1980: The Indians win at the Supreme Court in United States v Sioux Nation of Indians. The court rules the Lakota are entitled to $106 million for the "taking of tribal property" with regard to the Black Hills. The Lakota refuse to accept this settlement, and the money is still in a government account. With interest, the amount is now more than one billion dollars. |
