The Ku Klux Klan:
The Ku Klux Klan was founded in 1865 in Pulaski, Tennessee, by six veterans of the Confederate Army. The name was likely a variation of the Green word kulos, meaning "circle." The Klan rose as a Reconstruction measure of control in the South. Vigilantes employed fear, threats, violence, and murder, against blacks, their supporters, and white Republicans.
