The Helicopter Proves Its Worth:
The most successful helicopter exploit of the 1940s occurred on Luzon in the Philippines in June 1945. Sikorsky R-4Bs and R-6As from the 5th and 7th Aircraft Repair Units (Floating) lifted 70 wounded soldiers from frontline positions inaccessible to other forms of medical evacuation.
