James Sadler, a pastry chef, was the second person and the first Englishman to fly form English soil just three weeks after Lunardi's first flight. Here he ascends from Hackney, London, with a companion on August 29, 1811. He flew to East Thorpe, Essex, conducting scientific experiments along the way. |
