As he informs a military woman of the 1994 Pentagon policy that restricts female soldiers from direct combat on the ground, an officer offers words supposedly intended to console. Stating that she "can continue to fight for equal employment opportunities, equal advancement, equal pay" underscores Herblock's commentary on the injustice of the ruling and references unequal treatment experienced by women in many fields.
