Travelers along Kingsbridge Road crossed many different landscapes on their journey, including swamps, farms, forests, and streams. Before Central Park was built, the area around the present-day Fort Landscape consisted of rocky bluffs, tidal wetlands at the base of the rock outcrops, and flat farmlands to the north.
