Ben Shahn
Ben came to Washington in 1935 to work for the Resettlement Administration as a graphic artist and became part of a group of talented photographers (Ben being the only noted painter) charged with the mission of building a contemporary, photographic history of just how people -- all kinds of people lived in those days of deep Depression. Each photographer surveyed, investigated, and visually recorded different parts of the country -- a notable undertaking that would some day be celebrated as the great RA/FSA File.
