In this vignette, a French prisoner-of-war offers to sell a wooden ship vessel, complete with officers, seamen, and a contingent of red-coated Marines, to English residents from a nearby town. Such negotiations often took place in a prison courtyard opened to the public on a weekly or even daily basis. In other cases, a representative of the POWs took one or more models to the local town to sell on behalf of his compatriots.
