DC -- Supreme Court Building -- Event: Ruth Bader Ginsburg's passing:
Bruce Guthrie Photos Home Page: [Click here] to go to Bruce Guthrie Photos home page.
Description of Pictures: Multiple events:
* Friday, September 18: RBG passed that night. I was downtown visiting the newly opened Eisenhower Memorial when I heard the news and walked over to the Supreme Court. On the way, I passed an evangelical group on the west side of the Capitol singing songs of joy in her passing because nothing says "pro life" as much as celebrating the death of someone.
* Saturday, September 19: She gave all she could, with literally all she had. Now it’s our turn.
Tonight, join us in front of the U.S. Supreme Court at 8pm ET for a socially distanced candlelight vigil honoring Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.
If you can’t join us in D.C, please join us in solidarity at your local courthouse at 8pm your local time.
* Sunday, September 20: Daytime visit to see the signs in support of RBG.
* Wednesday, September 23: Viewing of RBG's casket atop the steps of the Supreme Court.

RBG2_200920_171.JPG: Good Bones by Maggie Smith
Life is short, though I keep this from my children.
Life is short, and I've shortened mine
in a thousand delicious, ill-advised ways,
a thousand deliciously ill-advised ways
I'll keep from my children. The world is at least
fifty percent terrible, and that's a conservative
estimate, though I keep this from my children.
For every bird there is a stone thrown at a bird.
For every loved child, a child broken, bagged,
sunk in a lake. Life is short and the world
is at least half terrible, and for every kind
stranger, there is one who would break you,
though I keep this from my children. I am trying
to sell them the world. Any decent realtor,
walking you through a real shithole, chirps on
about good bones: This place could be beautiful,
right? You could make this place beautiful.
You could make this place beautiful.

RBG_200918_281.JPG: After passing the Christian fundamentalist folks celebrating, because nothing says "pro-life" as much as cheering the death of someone, you reached the Supreme Court where the crowd, all wearing masks, mourned the loss of Ruth Bader Ginsburg who passed on September 18, 2020. Some there hoped there were some Republican Senators with integrity who would refuse to approve a new justice so close to an election (echoing Russian Mitch's blocking hearings on Merrick Garland). Unfortunately, Republican Senators with integrity have largely run away in the age of Trump.

One guy kept saying the line was too long and he wasn't sure why he was there at all. He said if he had to vote tomorrow, he'd vote for the child president, not Biden. He said he never forgave Obama for Obamacare saying he was too young to need health insurance and the $400 hit on his multiple restaurant jobs. He said if he had a major physical problem, he'd go to the emergency ward and have the city pick up the tab.

2020 photos: Well, that was a year, wasn't it? The COVID-19 pandemic cut off most events here in DC after March 11.
The child president's handling of the pandemic was a series of disastrous missteps and lies, encouraging his minions to not wear masks and dramatically increasing infections and deaths here. The BLM protests started in June, made all the worse by the child president's inability to have any empathy for anyone other than himself. Then of course he tried to steal the election in November. What a year!
Equipment this year: I continued to use my Fuji XS-1 cameras but, depending on the event, I also used a Nikon D7000.
The farthest distance I traveled after that was about 40 miles. I only visited sites in four states -- Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia and DC. That was the least amount of travel I had done since 1995.
Number of photos taken this year: about 246,000, the fewest number of photos I had taken in any year since 2007.
