Docent Information
* This Art Installation is privately funded by Artist Suzanne Firstenberg to memorialize those who have been lost to Covid-19. Ruppert Landscaping has generously donated designs and labor to make this installation possible.
* You are invited to plant flags in reflection and participation. If you would like to write the name of someone lost to Covid-19 on the Flags before planting, we have a Reception Tent where you can find the materials and Staff to guide you.
* Over 220,000 Flags will be planted in this green space over the next few weeks. Each flag represents a life lost. The number of flags in the exhibit mirrors the number of lives lost to COVID-19. This number is updated daily on the billboard.
* This Art Installation was created to provide a space of collective reflection and mourning. We ask that visitors enjoy the space, but please observe social distancing and wear masks at all times.
* The installation will be open from 11am - 6pm on Weekdays and 9am - 6pm on weekends.
* The smaller section of Flags in front of the large billboard represents the number of lives that would have been lost in New Zealand, a county who has fortunately suffered the least amount of lives lost to Covid-19. The number has been adjusted to show the number of lives lost if New Zealand had the same population size as the United States.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q. Is this exhibit politically charged /focused?
A. The artist intended for the installation to be apolitical and only wanted to memorialize those who have been lost. Regardless of political opinion, everyone should be able to respect and honor the lives needlessly lost in this pandemic.
Q. Can I participate?
A. YES!!! We need volunteers daily and would love to have your help. Please find the Volunteer Coordinators under the Reception Tents to sign up.
Q. Can we take a Flag home with us?
A. NO. Please make sure not to remove any flags from the grounds of the exhibit.
Q. Can I write something other than a name on a Flag to be planted?
A. No. We have to adhere to the purpose of the artist's vision to maximize the impact.
[This restriction was immediately dropped.]
Q. How long will this be running here?
A. Tentatively, we will have this up until November 6th, 2020.

INAMER_201023_100.JPG: The In America: How could this happen... art installation by Suzanne Brennan Firstenberg, commemorating those who died in the USA from Covid, continues to grow at the DC Stadium/Armory. The goal is one white flag for every American who has died of Covid and the count is updated every day. Folks are invited to write the names of friends and loved ones who've died from the pandemic so they can be part of the memorial. It should be up until November 6.

2020 photos: Well, that was a year, wasn't it? The COVID-19 pandemic cut off most events here in DC after March 11 and then the BLM protests started followed by the child president trying to steal the election in November. Trump's handling of the pandemic has been a series of disastrous missteps and lies, encouraging his minions to not wear masks and increasing the deaths here. As the chant goes -- Hey, hey, POTUS-A; how many folks did you kill today?
Number of photos taken this year: about 246,000, the fewest number of photos I had taken in any year since 2007.
