Signage: You'll see a lot of signs in this group. Eventually, I'll type the text of the signs into the subject description and get rid of the signs themselves. This is pretty slow and tedious work though.
Description of Subject Matter: Washington Hebrew Congregation, Washington's oldest Jewish congregation, was formed in 1852 and is associated with Reform Judaism. The congregation, originally essentially German, dedicated its 8th Street temple in 1898. President William McKinley attended the ground-breaking ceremonies.
Although not a copy of the famous Berlin Synagogue on Oranienburger Strasse, dedicated in 1866 and designed by Eduard Knoblauch, Washington's 8th Street Temple is reminiscent of the 3200-seat Berlin synagogue. Both buildings, in turn, recall the famous Dresden Synagogue built by Gottfried Semper in 1840.
The building has been home to Greater New Hope Baptist Church since 1954, the church having been organized in 1933.
Washington Hebrew Congregation is now located at 3935 Macomb Street, N.W.
New Hope vision is to spread the glorious Gospel of Jesus Christ and to be a safe haven for a lost and hurting humanity by ministering to the total person - through worship, by sharing and studying the Word of God and throughout the community, becoming financially self sustaining, supporting family values, and supporting those who are short-term or career missionaries.
New Hope Baptist Church was organized in November 1981 and held its first worship service at the John Bayne Elementary School. In November of 1986, the church purchased housing property located at 3400 Pinevale Avenue, Forestville, Maryland. In 1993, after a lot of planning, prayers, permit, and patience, the New Hope Baptist Church family moved into its present renovated structure. Two years later, in pursuit of our Pastor's vision additional property was purchased at 3415 Pumphrey Drive, Forestville, Maryland. This property serves as the church's Annex 1.
Bigger photos? To save space on the server and because the modern camera images are so large, photos larger than 640x480 have not been loaded on this page. If you need the bigger sizes of selected photos, email me and I can email them back to you or I can re-load this page temporarily with the bigger versions restored.

2020 photos: The year is too new to have anything to report. The Covid-19 disaster cut off most events here in DC after March 11 and even cut off going outside after awhile. Here's hoping honesty and integrity wins for a change this November.
Partially Reviewed: Rough draft. I've gone through these pictures once, removing the worst ones, some duplication, etc. I usually take sequences of 4 or 5 pictures at a time and there are lots of near duplicates. I'll be doing a final review later which will cull the pictures down some. To be honest though, I'm way behind on doing final reviews.
