Jessica Long, a 13x Paralympic Swimming Gold Medalist, is advancing global adaptive sport. Jessica is training for Tokyo 2020, her fifth Paralympic Games. Adopted from a Russian orphanage, Jessica had both legs amputated below the knee at 18 months old. By age 12, she was competing at the international level and is now the second-most decorated U.S. Paralympian in history with 23 Paralympic medals. Jessica’s first book, “Unsinkable: From Russian Orphan to Paralympic Swimming World Champion,” launched in June 2018. Co-authored with her sister, Hannah Long, and published by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, the work inspires inclusion, self-acceptance and empowerment, encouraging young women to assume control of their lives. “We all have obstacles, but the process of deciding to turn obstacles into opportunities is where we find our strength.”

Fred Bowen is the author of 23 action-packed sports books for kids ages 7-12, including his most recent, Lucky Enough. He has written the weekly sports column for kids in The Washington Post since April 2000. He has been a guest author at hundreds of schools and conferences, as well as the National Book Festival and The Baseball Hall of Fame. Fred lives in Silver Spring, Md., with his wife Peggy Jackson. Their son, Liam, is the associate head baseball coach at UMBC and their daughter, Kerry, is a reading teacher in Washington, D.C.

2019 photos: Equipment this year: I continued to use my Fuji XS-1 cameras but, depending on the event, I also used a Nikon D7000.
Trips this year:
a four-day jaunt to Massachusetts (Boston, Stockbridge, and Springfield) to experience rain in another state,
Asheville, NC to visit Dad and his wife Dixie,
four trips to New York City (including the United Nations, Flushing, and the New York Comic-Con), and
my 14th consecutive San Diego Comic-Con (including sites in Utah).
Number of photos taken this year: about 582,000.
