AMCULT_190624_04.JPG: Costume, 2013 Actors Billy Porter and Eric LaJuan Summers wore parts of this costume as Lola, a drag performer turned footwear consultant, in the original Broadway production of Kinky Boots. Gregg Barnes designed the costumes for the musical, which premiered in 2013. Kinky Boots tells the story of a failing British boot company that reverses its fortunes by manufacturing specialty shoes for drag shows. "Look to the heel, young man," Lola advises. "The sex is in the heel." With music by Cyndi Lauper and book by Harvey Fierstein, the show celebrates diversity, self-expression, and tolerance.

Description of Subject Matter: Ruby Slippers and American Culture Displays
October 19, 2018 – Indefinitely
Dorothy's Ruby Slippers from The Wizard of Oz return to view as one of eight installations displaying American history through culture, entertainment, and the arts. Other artifacts on view include a New York Yankee Stadium ticket booth, jazz and classical instruments, a video game wall, and cases for new acquisitions. A stained glass window from the Victor Company’s headquarters in Camden, New Jersey, featuring “Nipper,” the iconic dog listening to his master’s recorded voice, is the culture floor’s landmark object.
Bigger photos? To save server space, the full-sized versions of these images have either not been loaded to the server or have been removed from the server. (Only some pages are loaded with full-sized images and those usually get removed after three months.) I still have them though. 2019 photos: Equipment this year: I continued to use my Fuji XS-1 cameras but, depending on the event, I also used a Nikon D7000. Trips this year: a four-day jaunt to Massachusetts (Boston, Stockbridge, and Springfield) to experience rain in another state, Asheville, NC to visit Dad and his wife Dixie, four trips to New York City (including the United Nations, Flushing, and the New York Comic-Con), and my 14th consecutive San Diego Comic-Con (including sites in Utah). Number of photos taken this year: about 582,000.
