The Newseum presents a screening of the new documentary, “Joseph Pulitzer: Voice of the People,” which profiles the American icon whose newspaper, the New York World, transformed media and made him wealthy, admired and feared.
The film chronicles the life of Pulitzer from his start as a penniless young Jewish immigrant from Hungary through his four decades as a reporter and publisher and explores how he spoke of “fake news” more than 100 years ago and fought the dangers that the suppression of news posed for democracy.
Adam Driver narrates the film, which features Liev Schreiber as the voice of Pulitzer, Tim Blake Nelson as the voice of Teddy Roosevelt and Rachel Brosnahan as the voice of Nellie Bly.
The film will appear later in 2019 as part of PBS’s “American Masters” series.
