Description of Pictures: Alan Gratz, Katherine Marsh -- In Gratz's "Refugee," we follow the stories of three families seeking asylum at different times in history. Historically accurate with suspense and emotion, this novel expands our understanding of the difficult situations people have faced over time. Katherine Marsh grew up in Yonkers, N.Y. After majoring in English at Yale, she spent a year as a high school English teacher before becoming a journalist for Rolling Stone, The Washington City Paper and The New Republic. Her first book, “The Night Tourist,” won the Edgar Award for Best Juvenile Mystery. Her third book, “Jepp, Who Defied the Stars,” was a New York Times Notable. Her latest multi-starred novel, “Nowhere Boy,” is based on her family’s experience living in Belgium and was featured on NPR’s Morning Edition. Katherine currently lives in Washington, D.C., with her husband, two children, two cats and a small flock of chickens.

(July) My 14th consecutive San Diego Comic-Con (including sites in Utah).
(August) Massachusetts (Boston, Stockbridge, and Springfield) to experie/nce rain in another state, and
(August) Asheville, NC to visit Dad and his wife Dixie.
Equipment this year: I continued to use my Fuji XS-1 cameras but, depending on the event, I also used a Nikon D7000.
Number of photos taken this year: about 582,000.
